"Break on through to the other side": this motto, loosely based on the song by Jim Morrison & The Doors, can be used to describe my career best. Starting out as a waiter and sommelier in well-known Viennese restaurants, such as the Steirereck, I decided to follow my passion for wine and become a wine maker in 1990. I founded my own vineyard in Welgersdorf in Southern Burgenland, following my studies at the wine academy in Rust, Burgenland. Now, I was able to make wines which have already partly existed in our region, but should be even more distinct according to my own beliefs. So distinct as the terroir they grow on: the limestone Königsberg, the “opal” Tschaterberg and -- nomen est omen – the Eisenberg with its iron and slate.
